Despite a well received first novel, as the series continued Adelier came to be regarded as speciest, with all protagonists being human and antagonists non-human, and later novels were mostly panned, with few original ideas and fairly pedestrian plots. After the final volume was published, the series mostly vanished. series list ----------- "Scripted Violence": Tired of life in the scriptorium, Grim Abyss becomes a caravan guard for delivering the books he once helped copy. Life as a guard is anything but boring as various factions attempt to intercept shipments and literally rewrite history. His fate is changed forever when his convoy is pillaged by a fey literary assault squad, and as the sole survivor he pledges himself to the archfey Darian Bookworm. "Fateful Conjunction": Presumed dead by his monastery and directed towards impossible tasks by his new patron, Grim's trajectory is slingshotted in an unlikely direction by a close encounter while contemplating his future. Together with his new companions the impossible becomes merely improbable, at least as long as their unstable orbits remain closely bound. "Poetry in Motion": As a dangerous new fashion trend takes hold, Grim and cohort attempt to collect the deadly tomes involved. Bask's family gets in on the fashion action, possibly to their everlasting regret. Will Balama's poetry slam contest manage to sway everyone into keeping books off the streets? "Missionary Position": It's off to the backwaters of Faerun as Grim's group is tasked with spreading the good word of books amoung the less than literate. Ceidel and Rowan are finally forced to confront their families, and their own relationship. "Written in Blood": A simple book hunt is foiled when a copper dragon objects to Mara's gold blood. In order to mollify the dragon, Grim and co have to ... perform building inspections? What game is the dragon playing? "Indecent Preposition": Grim is forced to go solo when his associates fall for a fiendish trap. After so long with their assistance and companionship, can he manage without? Whose influence will he be placed under? What morally dubious agreement will he be saddled with? Who is Grim's ultimate allegiance to? "Literary Convention": Reunited with his team, Grim searches for information on his patron, taking them through the most dangerous lands they've ever traveled. Is this mission impossible? Are there secrets best left unrevealed? characters of interest ---------------------- Balama Bask: party member, human rogue (charismatic) Ceidel Terrene: party member, human fighter Darian Bookworm: patron, archfey lord Fluffie: copper dragon antagonist of book 5, takes issue with Mara's bloodline Gimble "Trendsetter" Timbers: gnome antagonist of book 3, drives fashion treating dangerous tomes as stylish accessories Mara Bolide: party member, human sorceress (fire themed) Marta Domine: human bard, rival/love interest, features in books 3 and 6 Rowan Placoid: party member, human cleric
