We (somehow) find Oreth and Pell in a magic circle in a tomb in the dwarven ruins. Outside the circle are Larack, a hag, and some deep ones, the latter of whom appear unable to pass through the magic circle. We fight them for a while, with Oreth and Pell falling back once we provide enough cover for them to do so safely. Lam eventually ends the fight by breaking the seal the hag had placed on the tomb, releasing hordes of rather peeved dwarven ghosts who assault those desecrating their tomb, although Larack, seing it coming, manages to escape (1900/6 xp, 700 gp). We help the dwarves clean up, and in return are granted four matched shortswords of giant slaying[1]. Also, Akra finds an old war banner, and one of the deep ones had an unholy axe that appears to have once been dedicated to Selune. The latter rates as sufficiently scary that we immediately take it to the crafters, the Helvenblade outside of Westbridge. When we arrive, the family is out (trading in Waterdeep), but the staff receives us, and curiously points us to a huntsmans who's been with the family for as long as anyone can remember. The huntsman goes off with Lam and they have a little chat (also, test). Turns out he's actually a silver dragon who's been associated with the family for quite a while, and he decides she's qualified to hold the axe, and not merely removes the darkness from it but rehallows it to Selune[2]. We then decide it's time to head to the Stone Monastery. Dropping by the stone bridge and looking for boats doesn't work (it's the off season, and boats don't seem to be stopping there), so we go cross-country, dropping by that smoky place we'd seen before on the way. The smoke turns out to be from a giant wicker man that somehow isn't being consumed, and there are a bunch of campsites nearby. We decide to pass on this for now, as it's probably fire cultists and we're still working on the earth cultists. When we get to the monastery, they turn out to be quite unreceptive. After being rebuffed at the entrance, we walk around the place, at which point we get assaulted by monks. Barely surviving the first wave, we retreat from the duegar second wave, taking one monk with us for questioning (1100 xp). [1] +1 dwarven short sword, damage bonus +2 versus giant types, if multiple weapons of the set hit the same target in a given round, the damage bonus is cumulative (so +1 for the first hit, +2 for second (or double that against giants). Extra dice from crits are also cumulative against the same target (+1d6 for first crit, +2d6 for second, also doubled against giant types). Crit range is 19-20 against giant types. [2] +1 battle axe, damage may be slashing/force/radiant/psychic, can use action to cast moonbeam (DC 15, 3 charges, recharges 1d3/day), can use action to alter light levels up or down one level in 60' around the wielder (effect travels with wielder).
