Human Genetics

The SHGC Genetics Group's goal is to discover polymorphisms in candidate genes and determine how they contribute to human traits, in particular, diseases that show complex inheritance.

In several different collaborations, we are searching for genes involved in atherosclerosis, Syndrome X, hypertension, Parkinson's disease, autism, and resistance to HIV infection.

Identification of which genes cause disease has several benefits, including: allowing early identification of people at increased risk, development of new and more effective treatments and tailoring treatments and preventive measures to patients who are most likely to respond.
